Hemp protein is probably my favorite protein, for so many reasons. First off, it's plant based, making it much easier to digest than whey, especially for women. It has the fewest ingredients (that are actually real ingredients) that I have yet to see in a protein. This dark chocolate brand in particular has only four: raw cold milled organic hemp protein powder, organic coconut sugar, and organic fair trade cocoa powder. The best part is... it doesn't taste like protein. There's no weird chalky flavor, it literally just tastes like chocolate, but it's still low in sugar and high in protein. It mixes in so well, making overnight oats and smoothies a breeze.
Doesn't get much better than that.
I'm not kidding when I say this tastes like a chocolate milkshake that you can eat with a spoon. I always add a lot of cinnamon because I have a slight obsession with it. Overnight oats usually stay good between 3-5 days, so this is a good recipe to make ahead of time for breakfast during the week.
Ingredients
- 1/3 C. oats
- 2/3 C. unsweetened almond milk, add more in the morning if you want more
- 1 tsp. chia seeds
- 2 Tbsp. Manitoba Harvest dark chocolate hemp protein (any chocolate protein will work but this tastes the best to me)
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 3-5 drops stevia
- optional toppings: peanut butter, cinnamon, banana, or dark chocolate chips
Steps
1. combine oats, almond milk, chia seeds, protein powder, cinnamon, and stevia in a medium sized mason jar, put the lid on and shake until mixed well
2. set in the fridge overnight, then top with optional toppings when ready to eat
